2000 years ago the entrance of the sun in Libra was identified by the Autumnal equinox. Nowadays due to the precession of the equinoxes the sun changes hemisphere in the sky crossing the celestial equator (with other words it is passing the Autumnal Equinox), passing to the South, during its presence in the sign of Virgo (Sun is in Virgo from September 17 to October 31, 2014). So all the emotional comments of astrologers about the autumnal equinox supposedly associated with the entry of the Sun in Libra are wrong. The Sun will enter to this Sign on October 31 at noon.
Thus according to scientific data the sun enters to the southern hemisphere of the sky at the dawn of September 23. On this time begins the Autumn in the northern hemisphere and Spring in the southern one.
In Greek mythology, Persephone would turn to her husband Hades on autumnal equinox and this was definetely a sad fact. It symbolizes the obligations and responsibilities towards ourself and our society.
It is not necessary to equate the date of the entry of the sun in Libra to be able to draw some conclusions about our personal life and psychology in general. The sun is lying in Virgo when passing this important point in the sky and it gives harmony, balance and courage to the people and most importantly it gives willingness to cope with difficulties and responsibilities of the new cycle of life. At this time we feel a strong desire to connect with other people to learn and maybe help in turn our family and our friends. The nights are getting longer in the northern hemisphere which helps more contemplation and thinking about our future.
Happy Autumnal Equinox!
How could Astrology survive without her sister, the science of Astronomy? This is a question that raises a lot of debate.
But let's take it from the beginning. In ancient times astrology was tied to astronomy and for the ancient peoples this was highly regarded as given, especially to the ancient Greeks. Thus for the calculation of the signs through which the sun passed the ancient Greeks used the ecliptic. This was the apparent path of the sun in the sky. That is a classic example of interaction between Astrology and Astronomy.
When Claudius Ptolemy was practising Astrology, the knowledge of Astronomy was considered as a prerequisite. It was obvious that without Astronomy, Astrology couldn't exist.
The geocentric model of Aristotle was in use that epoch. This model is now obsolete. For this we can not blame Claudius Ptolemy and other astrologers of the Hellenistic era. Astrology was therefore sister of astronomy of the Hellenistic era. Now we know much more about the Sun, the Moon and the planets. We know with scientific accuracy the future positions of the Sun and the planets in the heavenly firmament. It is therefore reasonable to expect that as Astrology of the Hellenistic era was built (the one we now call Tropical Astrology) by Astronomy of that time, so we shall make today's Astrology from Astronomy of the 21st century.
The reasons why the Tropical Astrology stayed behind and did not develop are not to be discussed in this article. What we need to answer honestly all of us astronomers and astrologers is the following: Does Astrology deserve to go hand by hand with Astronomy of our time or not? Do we want our forecasts to be based on the true positions of the planets, or under some false positions which might have been true 2000 years ago. Tropical Astrologers are those who have a cost due to the development of astrology. This is of course their problem since they refused any evolution.
Saturn and its moons. Far behind, to the right, our Sun.
As inhabitants of this planet we tend to see everything geocentric. This indeed was one of the biggest problems in the history of sciences and beyond. Astronomy was the science who paid the highest price in the arena of the geocentric looking of all things. So let's get away from the geocentric pattern and let's try to imagine our civilization on another planet!
How would it be if we were on Jupiter or Saturn; On another planet in another star in our galaxy? On another planet and star but on galaxy M81 in Ursa Major?
Lets try to find out with the help of Astronomy.
If we were on Saturn we would be more concerned about its rings and the 62 known moons rather than with the planets of our Solar System and the far distant Sun! In this case we would be talking about Astrology of Saturn's moons!
The zodiac constellations would be more or less the same since Saturn orbits around the Sun at an angle of 2,5° in respect to the ecliptic.
A similar picture we would have if we were on Jupiter. With many moons and the same zodiac constellations since the slope of the plane Jupiter to the ecliptic is only 1,3°. For Mars and Venus the zodiac constellations would remain the same as the angle of the orbits of these planets are 1,85 ° and 3,39 ° respectively. Venus has no Moon, hence we would be dealing with the other planets as we do now! Mars has 2 moons and its Astrological system would be more complecated than ours!
On another planet in another star in our galaxy the date would radically change for the zodiac constellations, as they would be non-identifiable because of the changing in location and angle. If the star was near us we would see probably many common stars and few known Zodiac Signs.
Taurus stands firmly and squarely upon the Earth - rooted & opposed by the new sign Ophiuchus. What changes? Everything. Especially our conception of what the concept of earthly-living means. Not Capricorn / Saturnine 'worldly-living' in the materialistic sense - money, power, acquisition - but rather, the innocent sense of living on and in harmony with Gaia, ‘Mother Earth’ - waking up in the Spring (after a long Winter) to smell the flowers, and feel the thick, green grass warm again under our feet. This isn't Summer, it is still Spring. The opposition of Taurus to Ophiuchus in no way represents a Winter-Summer axis.
We used to see in 12-sign astrology a tension between Taurus and Scorpio, so it was all mistakenly misperceived as an axis of life over death; that all of life is ultimately nourished and fed by death and violent change. It’s not true. Taurus is opposed by Ophiuchus, and a few degrees of Scorpio - but nothing much by comparison of degrees - almost a sideline, aside to the heavy direct diametrical-opposition to Ophiuchus and through which they are mututally understanding and in harmony with each other. They are both peaceful signs (albeit very stubborn signs) and lately I have witnessed my Ophiuchans friends being a LOT more stubborn than their Taurean-bull counter-parts! - the more so because the new 13-sign Aries takes on some of the old 12-sign Taurus characteristics and the new 13-sign Taurus adopts some of old Gemini's versatility to change.
You are waking up one morning to go to work and suddenly you find out on the Internet what you were always afraid of but would never believe that it could happen! Your Zodiac Sign has changed! So you are born November 5, supposedly proud, strong, willful, erotic, explosive Scorpions, and discover that you are harmonious, balancers, Libras! Yuck! Then there's an eyesore, nausea, stomach pain and burning of the eyes! You say: It's not possible! I am and will stay forever Scorpio! I'll never erase the tattoo on my arm, neither shall I unhook the little Scorpio pendant from my neck .. If only Fire could burn those who say these stuff and let they be eaten by the black darkness!
But is this enough to exorcise the evil and restore the lost balance in the zodiac circle and your soul? I fear not! Because of the precession of the equinoxes the signs have changed position in the sky irrevocably. This has happened slowly over thousands of years. Peoples Zodiac Sign is a scientific fact outside of their will. When you are born the Sun was in one of the 13 Signs of the ecliptic and this is a definite and non-negotiable fact.
You were attributed a wrong Zodiac Sign because Tropical Astrology never found the strength to tell the truth to their audience. The continuation of a system error became intolerable and unacceptable.
13 Zodiac Astrology reunites Astronomy with Astrology and gives life to this ancient field of Knowledge. It is adjusted annually according to the Precession of the Equinoxes and gives the right signs and the correct interpretations of the positions of the planets on the ecliptic ..
It gives you your 100% correct Zodiac Sign based on the position of the Sun in the sky.
So there are two possible reactions to the change of your sign:
1. put your head in the sand like ostriches and pretend that nothing has changed in your sign.
2. accept the change of your Zodiac sign and welcome the reunion of Astrology with Astronomy and the irrefutable laws of nature ..
The choice is yours ..
The Sun entered to Virgo on September 17, 2014 at 00:40 GMT. It will remain in this Zodiac sign about 44 days, until October 31 at 12:50 GMT. Then it will transit to the Zodiacal constellation of Libra. Making a small parenthesis, I'd like to say that in the fantasy of tropical astrologers the Sun during the above mentioned time, is supposed to be in Virgo until September 22, in Libra until October 23 and finally in Scorpio !! It is scientifically proven though that the Sun travels in Virgo during this time.
New Moon will take place in Virgo on September 24 and then on October 23, and Full Moon on October 8, in Pisces. On that day the Moon will be in conjunction with Uranus and together they'll form two large Astrological triangles with Jupiter and Mars predisposing for a harmonious cooperation with people you would never imagine!
Mercury will be in retrograde motion from October 4 to 25 with the known and usual predictable setbacks ..
Mars will transit from Libra to Scorpio on September 17 and in Ophiuchus just 10 days later, causing concern in many signs and affecting you to find solutions to riddles of your life ..
Jupiter will move from Cancer to Leo on October 8, a temporary move because soon the planet will go retrograde (December 8th) and will eventually return to Cancer.
Today September 10 the Sun is high in the sky and in the sign of Leo. The positions of the planets on the ecliptic, which is the apparent annual path of the sun in the sky at 8:00 am, GMT, are the following (see picture below):
(See bigger image here: September 10, 2014 Sun In Leo Chart)
Sun: 29 ° 15 'in Leo
Moon: 12 ° 46 'Pisces
Hermes: 17 ° 26 'in Virgo
Venus: 17 ° 26 'in Leo
Mars: 19 ° 35 'in Libra
Jupiter: 13 ° 31 'Cancer
Saturn: 10 ° 41 'in Libra
For the Western Tropical astrologers the positions of the Sun and planets are calculated according to the year 100 B.C. Therefore they are completely wrong. For the current day, September 10 at 8:00 am, GMT, they are the following (see picture below):
Sun: 17 ° 36 'in Virgo
Moon: 5 ° 54 'Aries
Hermes: 11 ° 58 'in Libra
Venus: 5 ° 47 'in Virgo
Mars: 27 ° 40 'Scorpio
Jupiter: 12 ° 04 'in Leo
Saturn: 18 ° 43 'Scorpio
The only Astrological theory that makes forecasts and analysis based on the actual positions of the Sun, Moon and planets is 13 Zodiac Astrology. Tropical Astrology makes predictions about how life would be if you had been born in 100 B.C. Something that is really interesting, but off-topic !!

As we have said many times with arguments based on the science of astronomy, the zodiac Signs are now 13 after the insertion of Ophiuchus between Scorpio and Sagittarius, on the ecliptic. Where ecliptic is called the apparent path of the Sun in the sky.
The ancient Greeks who founded Horoscopic Astrology had much less knowledge of the sky and the planets than we have today. For example, in the time of Claudius Ptolemy they believed that the Sun was turning around the Earth. 12 Zodiac Astrology was born in the Hellenistic era and was a child of Astronomy of the 2nd century BC
Today we now know from Astronomy that the sun is the center of our solar system. Its apparent path in the sky, as seen from the Earth, is accurately determined and passes through 13 zodiac constellations. Astrology is evolving by using modern Astronomy and is now called 13 Zodiac Astrology. This is a necessity imposed by life itself.
Nevertheless many Astrologers are stuck to 12 signs Astrology. Anyone can do whatever he wants in the modern era. In so far they engage and criticize 13 zodiac Astrology and Ophiuchus, we have the right to answer them so that people will know who is right!
West Tropical Astrologers say that they know about the Precession of the Equinoxes, which has moved the zodiac constellations in the sky. Their Astrology is faithful to traditions and has been detached by the zodiac constellations.
